A Hat In Time: Nyakuza Metro DLC Will Add 50-Player Online Party Mode May 10th

Gears for Breakfast announced that A Hat In Time is receiving a brand new DLC pack called Nyakuza Metro. It takes place in the titular district while offering up plenty of new content to unlock and acquire.

The DLC comes with 20 new dies, three camera filters, three new badges, new flairs, a new Purple Time Rift, a new baseball bat weapon, and 10 new time pieces. The most significant addition to the game is most certainly the online party mode, which allows players to see up to 49 other players to their game who you can see running around and playing in the game world.

This is already in addition to the two-player mode they added a while back when the Hat Kid was given a partner in crime to explore the levels with. Now, this isn’t a multiplayer mode to grief other people. You’ll able to see other players running around in the game world but you won’t be able to affect their game. You can get a glimpse of what the new mode will be like with the trailer below.

So the theme of the Nyakuza Metro DLC is that it takes place in a Neo-Tokyo inspired world filled with feline motif.

The DLC centers around the Hat Kid working for a mafioso type while exploring the busy metropolis. The stage design for the city reminds me a lot of something from Blinx. I’m not entirely fond of the washed out shadow maps, though. The shaders for the dark areas looks a little too dark. While there’s physically based rendering for the light emitters, the dark corners and low-lit areas are kind of too dark. I understand they were going for the contrast between the glowing lights and the dark shadows, but it almost makes it all look like its canvassed in crushed blacks in some areas.

Just a minor observation.

Anyway, the content looks like it’s going to be jam-packed with a ton of stuff to do, unlock, and play around with. And this isn’t some new content that features a work-worthy grind. Opposite of Mortal Kombat 11 the developers at Gears For Breakfast want people to actually have fun.

If you backed the game via Kickstarter then you’ll be able to get your hands on the online party mode and Nyakuza Metro stage for free. If you didn’t back the game via Kickstarter, you’ll have to pony up $6.99 for the new DLC.

You can learn more about the new content or pre-purchase it ahead of its May 10th, 2019 release date by visiting the Steam store page.
