Bishop Games announced that joining the PC, PS4 and Xbox One launch of Light Fall next year in 2018 is the Nintendo Switch. The hybrid console device will also get a special showcasing of the upcoming game during this year’s Tokyo Game Show in Tokyo, Japan.
Bishop Games teased a little bit of the gameplay with a trailer highlighting the platforming, which you can check out below.
So as you can see in the trailer, the hook is that you can create a platform underneath the kid and use it to propel yourself through the environment. This ability is known as the Shadowcore, and will be an integral part of your journey throughout the game world.
Players will journey through a number of different environments set within the dark-encrusted world of Numbra. This includes moving through various thematically charged environments where each have their own obstacles, challenges and platforming puzzles to solve.
The game reminds me a little bit of Super Meat Boy meets Limbo. The silhouette-inspired aesthetic fused with the fast-paced platforming will likely keep players on their toes.
I don’t know how well a game like this will stand out on a system like the Switch, or on a marketplace as crowded as the other three systems, but the final product is scheduled for release in March of 2018 next year.
Someone commented on the trailer page that the game would be pretty cool if it had a two-player co-op mode. I don’t know how well it would work for a game like this given that it’s really fast. In fact, one of the game’s selling points is that Bishop Games have apparently designed for speedrunning competitions, complete with an online leaderboard.
You can learn more about the game by visiting the official Light Fall website or look for the gameplay videos to pop up during this year’s Tokyo Game Show.
