Conscript, World War I Survival-Horror Gets A Free Demo

Catchweight Studio announced that they have a brand new isometric horror game in the works called Conscript. It’s survival-horror unlike you’ve seen before, combining pre-rendered 3D sprites with the claustrophobic nature of bunkers and trench warfare set during the violent and horrific conflict of World War I.

A near-two minute reveal trailer was released for the upcoming game, giving you an idea of how the mechanics work, what the weapons are like, and what you can expect from the combat loops.

You’ll be taking on more than just the standard soldiers, as you attempt to fight, flee, and find a way to get out of the nightmarish hell with your life, and mind, intact.

You play as a lone French soldier, trapped in the middle of the war while his comrades are dying around him, or slowly being driven mad by a chemical gas.

You’ll have to stay one step ahead of the enemy, solving puzzles to access new areas, and being tactical and conservative with the way you use weapons due to a limited number of supplies being at your disposal.

Conscript reminds me of a video game version of the 2008 film The Outpost starring Ray Stevenson, or especially Rob Green’s The Bunker. Although, description wise it probably shares a closer similitude with M.J. Bassett’s Deathwatch, where Andy Serkis absolutely stole the show in that one.

Conscript - Monsters

In any case, Conscript is scheduled to release at some point in 2021. However, to help stave off the long wait ahead, Catchweight Studio released a playable demo that you can download right now from over on the Steam store page.

So you can play-test an early version of the game right now or add it to your wishlist so you can check it out later, either when it comes closer to release or new information becomes available.
