Sony released the newest trailer for Jumanji: The Next Level, which is due out this Christmas in a theater near you. The film stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black as video game characters within the world of Jumanji. The trailer throws audiences for a curve when it’s revealed that The Rock and Kevin Hart’s game characters are embodied by none other than Danny Devito and Danny Glover.

The trailer actually caught me by surprise because I was going in expecting the typical, trite, tired jokes that we’ve come to expect from Kevin Hart, along with the typical cash-in blockbuster adventure from Hollyweird, but I will say that The Rock’s impression of Danny Devito and Kevin Hart’s impression of Danny Glover did make me chuckle a few times, and that’s more than what I can say for most pieces of crap that come across my desk.

The plot actually picks up from where the last film left off. After surviving the video game, the school kids go their separate ways. However, Spencer still feels a connection with the game and decides to try his hand at getting it to work again. He ends up getting sucked into the game and goes missing, which leads his friends back to the game to help him out, only this time they don’t get to select their characters, and the black guy ends up as Jack Black’s character, the nerdy girl ends up as Karen Gillan, and Danny Devito and Danny Glover end up in the shoes of The Rock and Kevin Hart respectively.

The trailer sets itself up decently enough, showcasing a lot of action and adventure sequences as the quartet of heroes seek out the missing Spencer.

Theories are already floating around in the comment section that the reason Spencer booted up the Jumanji video game again is because he felt lonely in his real life and wanted to rekindle the sense of importance and purpose that he encountered when he was able to take control of The Rock’s character. So they believe that Spencer might be the big villain in Jumanji: The Next Level.

I don’t really care about Jumanji anymore, but Danny Devito might entice me to check out the new film… maybe… but probably not. Also, Karen Gillan looks smoking hot, so that might be reason enough to check it out.

Anyway, you can look for Jumanji: The Next Level to arrive in theaters this Christmas. Also props to the marketers for actually using “Christmas” and not some other euphemism to cater towards anti-Western monkeys.
