Lost In The Garden’s Lightfield is a real breakaway from the traditional racing game mold. The recently released title is currently available for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. You can pick up a digital copy for only $19.99 from the Microsoft Store or the PlayStation Store.
The game features three different single-player modes, including the classic race, exploration mode, and a time trial, along with two different online modes: a local multiplayer feature for four-player split-screen and an online multiplayer feature that allows you to challenge others from around the world.
Simon Wallner, the co-founder of Lost in the Garden, explained in the press release that they wanted to revive the futuristic racing genre with something different, saying…
“With Lightfield we want to bring the genre forward and offer players the sense of freedom and opportunity for creativity that has come to define modern games. We hope players will enjoy the challenge of piecing together their own tracks on the multilayered racing courses as much as we do.”
He’s definitely not lying here. The game is completely off the wall… even literally at times.

Lightfield is classified as an omnidirectional racing game, where you can use any surface available as a means of attaining and maintaining acceleration and forward momentum. This level of freedom gives the game a decided different kind of feel when it comes to navigating the tracks and attempting to get a leg up on the competition.
The developers describe it in some ways as a “parkour” title because you don’t just ride surfaces toward the finish line, you have to strategically and maneuver through the levels with some pristine finger-work.
I feel like the game is a mix of Rez meets Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, with a touch of Zone Raiders and F-Zero.
