Bevontule Demo Arrives On Steam While Kickstarter Campaign Winds Down

Developer Multithreaded Games announced that a free playable demo of Bevontule: Altar of Roots is currently available over on the Steam store page right now.

The game is a medieval-fantasy role-playing game with turn-based combat. The game attempts to combine the fantasy elements of Western RPGs with the battle mechanics of JRPGs and fuse it with the developers’ own take on the role-playing genre.

The game is a fully 3D designed adventure with free-roaming random enemy battle encounters. What this means is that enemies don’t just rely on preset battle patterns and locations, and you’ll encounter them in ways you may not be prepared for, just the same as they may use tactics you may not entirely expect given that they can make full use of the gridless battleground just the same as you.

You can see a demonstration of Bevontule: Altar of Roots in the trailer below.

I can’t help but feel like this is a recall of the old-school computer RPGs during the late 1990s like Betrayal At Krondor.

The story and characterization of Bevontule was inspired by classics like Xenogears and Shadow Hearts. You’ll take the characters through trials and tribulations along the way, unlocking new skillsets and special abilities.

Bevontule also sports side-quests, optional boss hunts, and even mini-games. You can download the demo right now from over on the Steam store.

Meanwhile the developers are hoping to round out their Kickstarter campaign, which is just a little over halfway. They’re seeking $50,000 but they only have three days left to gather the funds.  Unless they get a massive amount of donations in a very short amount of time it doesn’t appear as if they’ll hit the goal.

If you were interested in the game you can check it out over on the Kickstarter page but they might have to either restart the crowdfunding drive or rely on Early Access.
