Riskers, GTA-Inspired Open-World Action Game Launches October 17th

Next week ShotX Studio and Meridian4’s Riskers will launch on Steam. The top-down, open-world action title combines the hard-nosed shoot-’em-up action from Hotline Miami with the driving and crime-drama elements from the original Grand Theft Auto from back in the late 1990s.

The game follows an ex-con named Rick Paradis who finds himself working as a sanitation worker. He happens upon a briefcase full of money and decides to keep it for himself. Little does he know that the briefcase belongs to some of the most ruthless, dangerous criminals in the city, and they don’t take no for an answer. Rick’s luck gets worse when his brother ends up getting offed as the gangsters attempt to get their money back from Rick, and he decides to make things right once and for all, even while thugs are after him, the mafia is after him, and cops are riding his arse harder than a Hollywood exec dry-humping a harem of young starlets during a photo op.

If you need a bit of convincing as to what the gameplay is like, there’s a trailer you can check out below.

Just like the original GTA, players will be able to steal cars, drive around town, acquire weapons, and get involved in intense shootouts.

Unlike GTA, ShotX Studio’s Riskers features the ability to go in and out of buildings, where you’ll face off against baddies in fully detailed interior environments. This is where the game seems to take some welcomed inspiration from Dennaton Games’ Hotline Miami.

The open-world environment also sports a full day and night cycle, along with a variety of side-quests sprinkled throughout the environment.

Cutscenes are also present to help tell the story, featuring comic-book style shaded panels and a collection of sleazy characters that Rick will encounter.

The game will launch at a 25% discount at only $7.45 for the first week before returning to its original price of $9.99. You can learn more about the game by visiting the Steam store or keep an eye out for the launch on October 17th.
