Call of Duty: WW2 has a loot-box system that rewards players with content upon opening said box type. However, Activision and Sledgehammer Games have another system for the curious that rewards the “looker” for watching another person opening a loot-box.
Most people already know my stance on loot-boxes, but it seems that other people are on the fence about Call of Duty: WW2 and its loot-box and vicarious reward system.
A lot of people feel that the whole thing is optional and that you don’t have to put up hard earned cash to buy loot-boxes, while others feel that the presence of loot-boxes being there is a enough to sway a crowd of people to start a loot-box habit.
Looking over to the social hub where people can communicate and perform various tasks, there is a new system in this area that rewards a person for watching a loot-box or boxes opened by another person. Additionally, there is an optional “Daily Order” system that will ask you to watch “3 Supply Drop Being Opened” to earn 25 Social Score.
With the above in mind, this is where a division sparked in various forum boards. Some people feel that this method will deter other players if they see a lot of bad loot-box rewards and will make them second guess spending money on Supply Drops. Some believe that it will encourage players to spend more money on loot-boxes if they witness rare loot, which will reward them for seeing said act.
Other gamers on the fence feel that you can just save up in-game points or do the following actions to earn loot-boxes instead of paying actual cash for them:
- Receive a Supply Drop as a random reward at the end of a match.
- Complete Contracts and Timed Challenges
- Complete Daily and Weekly Orders.
- Watch other players open Supply Drops.
It’s worth noting that the above methods may change in the near future like how EA and DICE changed Battlefield 1’s loot-box system rewards.
After all of this, though, do you think that Call of Duty: WW2 loot-box vicarious reward system is detrimental or do you think that it will deter people from growing a habit and constantly dishing cash for Supply Drops?
