Donnie Yen Is A Butt-Kicking Teacher In The Movie Big Brother

Just ahead of its debut on August 31st in the good ‘ole U.S. of A., a new trailer for Big Brother starring Donnie Yen rolled out to give fans of the martial arts superstar a brief look at the action-comedy.

The film stars Yen as a war-starved veteran and elite soldier who becomes a teacher at a school in China. The school has no shortage of bullies, menacing immigrants, and thugs that seem court trouble and pick fights. Lucky for the more docile students, Yen goes out of his way to clean up the school’s more intolerable refuse, and send punches and kicks to the way of those trying to disrupt the school’s zen.

Yen attempts to balance his violent tendencies with travel and finding peace among nature, while also trying to help students who suffer from a troubled home life. You can check out the trailer below, courtesy of Film Trailer Zone.

If I’m being completely honest here, the trailer is a mess.

The editing is all over the place, and it’s cut together with some many hack-and-snapped scenes that it’s impossible to make out what the movie is actually about.

None of the fight scenes are clearly on display in the trailer, and it does a piss poor job of conveying what the actual movie is about.

Luckily there’s actually a second trailer out there from back in March that gives you a better idea of what the film is about and its characterization of Donnie Yen’s Mr. Chen.

I imagine people looking for a lighthearted, feel-good film with some of Yen’s iconic martial arts choreography will probably take a liking to Big Brother. I doubt it’ll go down in history as one of his best films, but sometimes people enjoy simply being entertained and having fun at times, and given all the nonsense that has been pervading the entertainment industry, clocking out of the culture war fight and having a good time sometimes what’s good for the soul.

You won’t have to wait long to check out the U.S., version of the film as it’s set to debut on August 31st.
