Sony Interactive Entertainment Trademarks Syphon Filter

The last Syphon Filter game to hit the gaming scene was ten years ago back in 2007. Well, it looks like Sony Interactive Entertainment has trademarked Syphon Filter in Europe, which could mean that the original 1999 franchise could see a future remake, remaster or new title for PlayStation.

If you don’t know, the original Syphon Filter game or games were about stealth in a third-person shooter setup. A lot of people apparently liked the series enough for it to go on and bring more titles in its run of output, but not enough for it to go past the year 2007.

In addition to the above, the game had a series that ran from 1999 all the way to 2007, which would make it eight years it lived on.

Folks who found catharsis in said series might just find it once more in a new iteration, though. Thanks to a recent finding that publication site Gematsu brought up from the depths of the internet comes a tweet showing a SIE trademark for Syphon Filter in Europe:

As expected, a lot of gamers wanted to know if this would make an appearance at the recently announced PlayStation event that either goes by the name of PlayStation Experience 2017 or PSX.

Some gamers even express different variables that could come from this trademark. Some of them were a remake, remaster or new title for the PlayStation family of consoles.

Sadly, there’s no telling what might come out of this trademark. SIE could just be trademarking Syphon Filter or they could be working on something for gamers to look forward to in the future. Sony has been remaking a lot of their old classics lately, so that seems like a safe bet.

Before signing out, what do you think of this move? Would you want Sony to bring Syphon Filter beyond the year 2017 or do you think that it should stay where it is now?
