11 Bit Studios announced that their upcoming role-playing game from Digital Sun is set to launch on May 29th for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Moonlighter is an unorthodox rogue-lite role-playing game centered around a shop keeper who must keep his supplies fresh while also dreaming of one day becoming a legendary hero.
The game has players take on the role of Will, a friendly shopkeeper in the idyllic town of Rynoka. One day some mysterious gates were discovered that lead adventurers to different realms and dimensions, affording them opportunities to recover rare and precious relics and items.
Moonlighter allows players to take on the role both as a shopkeeper and as an adventure, carrying out quests for the townsfolk to recover or acquire rare items through the gates. You can check out the story trailer below to get an idea of what the gameplay and art is like.
The game is played like a typical top-down JRPG, not unlike the old-school 16-bit classics.
Digital Sun’s title utilizes lots of fluidly animated characters, combat and cinematics. The game is surprisingly vibrant. The charming art is accompanied by equally compelling gameplay that mixes boss battles and dungeon crawling with maintaining the store and buying and selling goods.
As is typical with most other cool looking indie titles announced for home consoles and PC, there are the Nintendonites in the comment section, port-begging for a Nintendo Switch version of the game.
11 Bit Studios somewhat confirmed that the Nintendo Switch version of Moonlighter is in development, but noted that they were not ready to confirm the release date just yet.
You can look for Moonlighter to launch on May 29th for $19.99 for the PS4, Xbox One, and on PC for both Steam and GOG.com. For more info, feel free to visit the official website.
