EA’s CFO Blake Jorgensen has been caught in a lie, making the whole Star Wars Battlefront 2 situation that much worse. EA and DICE were already under fire in regards to the game’s loot-boxes, microtransactions, and progression system, and now there’s yet another fiasco: On disc cut-content.
On November 29th, 2017, publication site Forbes posted up statements from EA’s CFO Blake Jorgenen’s response as to why cosmetic rewards were not in loot-boxes in Star Wars Battlefront 2:
“The one thing we’re very focused on and they are extremely focused on is not violating the canon of Star Wars,” Jorgensen said. “It’s an amazing brand that’s been built over many, many years, and so if you did a bunch of cosmetic things, you might start to violate the canon, right? Darth Vader in white probably doesn’t make sense, versus in black. Not to mention you probably don’t want Darth Vader in pink. No offense to pink, but I don’t think that’s right in the canon.”
“So, there might be things that we can do cosmetically, and we’re working with Lucasfilm on that. But coming into it, it wasn’t as easy as if we were building a game around our own IP where it didn’t really matter. It matters in Star Wars, because Star Wars fans want realism. But Star Wars fans may also want to tailor things — a different colored lightsaber, things like that. So you might see some of that.”
Let all of that sink in, okay?
Now that all of Jorgensen’s response as to why cosmetic rewards do not take precedence over stuff like damage enhancements through the “progression system” is in your mind, a YouTuber by the name of DylanRocket found the following through data mining Star Wars Battlefront 2 files:
“Hello, what have we here? There’s quite a lot of skins left in the files by the developers. These are all of the skins that I could load. There’s some other skins such as Shadow Troopers or Shore Troopers but a lot of those are just used in the campaign. I also threw in Phasma, the Arc Troopers, and “Grievous” because why not?”
Here’s the video showing the above locked away/cut-content that’s already in the game:
Still not enough information? Well, another YouTuber by the name of Uninspired Zebra came across even more skins:
You say you need more evidence? More footage by Uninspired Zebra showing cut-content via maps that are shown in the video sit below:
I’d say that EA and DICE couldn’t go any further down from here, but I have a feeling that there’s more skeletons in the closet waiting to come marching out and blatantly beat the whales and full-time damage control fans over the head with a few bones.
