Anthem Won’t Have A Season Pass

BioWare’s Anthem has a lot of nega-hype heading into its release. It’s one of the most non-anticipated games set to release in early 2019. However, BioWare has been doing everything in their power to try to turn the negative perception people have of the game around into something positive, but they aren’t doing the best of jobs at it.

Anyway, AltChar is reporting that lead producer Mike Gamble has confirmed that there will be no season pass for Anthem. What this means is that there won’t be a deluge of DLC story or mission packs that will warrant the necessity of a season pass. Gamble’s comments were made via a tweet that was posted up on December 22nd, 2018.

This means that the game won’t be riddled with DLC from top to bottom. I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.

The major problem is that we know that the game will already be part of Electronic Arts’ live-services model. What that means is that Anthem will have some form of microtransaction model implemented, we just don’t know how or what will be featured in the model.

This could range from loot boxes to cosmetics in a cash shop, or even pay-to-win weapons and armor. Given how much of a pushback EA received from Star Wars: Battlefront II’s loot boxes, it’s doubtful they’ll try that route again, especially with the Federal Trade Commission coming down on the model.

In all likelihood there will be a Javelins that players will be able to purchase, or Javelin skins, very similar to Titanfall 2 more than likely. The more concerning thing about the game is the high amounts of diversity being pushed in the advertisements for the game. It reeks of Mass Effect: Andromeda all over again. Just check out the trailer from The Game Awards.

As you can see, there are a lot of non-whites being prominently featured in the game, which is exactly how BioWare approached the design of Mass Effect: Andromeda, which was escalated by the former racist game designer, Manveer Heir.

Anthem is due out on February 22nd, 2019 for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
