Streets Of Red: Devil’s Dare Deluxe, Co-op Horror Beat ‘Em Up Launches On Steam

Secret Base, Ratloop Asia and Maple Whispering’s Streets of Red: Devil’s Dare Deluxe has launched on Steam for $9.99. During the first week of being on sale you can get the game for 20% off the normal price for only $7.99.

The game is a horror-themed, multiplayer, pemadeath beat’em-up that combines some of the rogue-like elements from today’s generation of gaming with the old-school pixel-art from the 16-bit era of gaming. This creates a unique mixture of retro-inspired gameplay with present-day mechanics and quality of life features such as achievements, leaderboards, and a dynamic difficulty.

The game is about heroes of old having to band together to fight against undead monstrosities. You can see what the gameplay is like with the trailer below.

The game features six playable characters, four-player local multiplayer co-op, and a dynamic difficulty that changes depending on the amount of players in a session. You also have access to multiple routes, and face off against bosses.

The hook for the game is that you need to earn cash so you can purchase revives, otherwise if you die it’s game over.

The permadeath feature is mirrored after the design in many classic arcade games where if you didn’t have the coins to keep going, it’s game over for you. So you have to rack up money in the game to buy lives in order to keep playing.

Sessions are generally short so that players are compelled to replay the game and experiment with different routes.

Streets of Red launched last year for PS4 and Nintendo Switch, but now you can get your hands on the deluxe edition of the game from over on the Steam store.

I kind of wish the sprite designs were a little taller, like the Sega Genesis beat-’em-up titles but obviously that would have cost more and taken more time to animate the characters. Even still, if you don’t mind the chibi designs for the characters and you’re looking for a co-op beat-’em-up, you can give Streets of Red a go.
