3D Realms and Goin’ Yumbo announced that they have a new game in the works called Graveball, which is due for release on July 31st, 2018 later this year for PC. The game is a mixture of action-sports and gore, not unlike the old Mutant League Football or Mutant League Hockey from back in the 1990s.
The gameplay consists of 3-vs-3 matches where it’s a mixture of basketball and football. The idea is to play the undead corpses across a cemetery court where you’ll attempt to throw a ball through a hoop. However, players on the opposing team will attempt to smash, hit, attack, and physically destroy their opponents until there’s nothing left but a puddle of gib and goo.
A 46 second trailer succinctly seems to sum up the gameplay without being too long, too overbearing, or too annoying. You can check it out below.
In order to dish out physical abuse on your opponents, you’ll have shovels that you can use to maim your foes. In order to score you’ll need to shoot a skull through a hoop that only appears every 30 seconds.
You’ll use the shovels like lacrosse sticks to move the skull down the field and score before the hoop disappears.
The game has an additional hook in the form of dead players being able to haunt the field by moving around as specters, and forcing suicide on opposing players.
Matches are designed to be played fast and furiously, lasting about five minutes so you’re not stuck there playing forever.
According to the founder of Goin’ Yumbo, there are no level-ups or skill boosts, so each team has access to the same abilities. You can, however, unlock new cosmetic gear for the players, along with being able to participate in both local and online multiplayer matches.
You’ll be able to pick up a digital copy of the game starting July 31st later this summer over on the Steam store for $4.99.
