The World Ends With You: Final Remix Coming To Nintendo Switch With New Content

More than a decade ago Square Enix and Jupiter Corporation released The World Ends With You on the Nintendo DS to wide acclaim from gamers and a lot of positive feedback even from game journalists. However, high scores and message board exaltation doesn’t equate to sales, and the game never really evolved beyond being a cult classic. Well, Nintendo is hoping to bring a much wider audience to The World Ends With You by re-releasing the game as the Final Remix on the Nintendo Switch.

No release date was set for the game, but it’s due out at some point this year for the Nintendo Switch.

They give a brief overview of what the combat is like and the general gist of the story in the mini-Nintendo Direct below.

Players take on the role of Neku Sakuraba who ends up meeting up with Shiki Misaki, as the duo attempt to play through a deadly game where Neku must complete specific tasks in order to progress through the challenges laid out before him. To make matters worse for Neku, he only has a certain amount of time to complete each challenge, otherwise he’ll be erased from existence.

Much like the Nintendo DS outing, the Nintendo Switch game will support gameplay via both the Joy-Con and the touchscreen controls. So while you’re kicking back and relaxing at home you can toss your feet up and play with the wireless Joy-Cons, but while you’re on the bus or commuting to work or school, you can whip out the tablet and use the touchscreen controls for the game’s high-impact, fast-paced combat mechanics.

The highly stylized visuals and Matrix-inspired story will likely appeal to people who like a mixture of odd games combined together, like Half-Second Hero, Jet Set Radio and Yakuza all combined into one.

Additionally, Switch owners will get to experience a brand new campaign chapter, detailing more of the overall story and giving gamers a complete overview of what’s going on within the game’s world.

Expect the release date for The World Ends With You: Final Remix to land somewhere in the slower months ahead to fill out the space between Nintendo’s heavy hitters.
