EastAsiaSoft announced that a limited edition of SeaBed, the yuri-themed mystery visual novel from developer Fruitbat Factory and Paleontology, will be making its way to the Nintendo Switch this summer at some point in June.
I was tipped off to the news by Joshua M. French, who works for EastAsiaSoft, who informed me that the game will be available physically as a region-free release, featuring a fully colored printed manual, and the inclusion of the game’s original soundtrack. You’ll also receive a collector’s certificate and a postcard set, all packaged in a special edition collector’s box.
The visual novel is a mystery tale about Mizuno Sachiko, who is plagued with hallucinations of a childhood friend named Takako. She seeks help from a psychiatrist named Narasaki Hibiki to help her overcome these hallucinations from the past.
The story unravels around Sachiko’s past relationship with Takako, why they drifted apart, why she’s suffering from hallucinations, and how each of them are attempting to separate truth from illusion.
The visual novel is currently prepping to have pre-orders made available over on the PlayAsia storefront.
The pre-orders will open on March 19th at 11:00pm Hong Kong Time, but if you’re planning on getting your hands on a physical copy of the limited edition you’ll have to work fast because only 2,000 copies will be made available.
Switch owners will also gain access to additional epilogue scenes, but Fruibat has plans on updating the PC version with the content as well, which they explained in a Steam forum thread back in February…
“First of all I should mention that the new scenes won’t affect the regular playing experience, as they’re designed to be epilogue sort of scenes you can unlock at the very end, so you don’t need to worry about missing out.
“We’ll also update the PC version at a later time, but since this is a complete engine port it’s going to take some time to make a version with PC features.
“We’re also working on a Chinese translation of SeaBed, so the update will probably happen after that’s finished. “
I’m shocked the game was allowed on Steam, but then again it was the all-ages version. But… then again that hasn’t stopped Valve from banning other all-ages yuri visual novels, such as Maidens of Michael.
Anyway, you can look for SeaBed to arrive in a limited physical release on the Switch this June.
(Thanks for the news tip Jonathan M. French)
