Laden with lovely ladies equipped with survival tools to engage in guerrilla warfare, Devgru-P and Nightlife Strangers’ Unconventional Warfare attempts to live up to its name by not only having cute waifus working under a grizzled commander to fight back while trapped in enemy territory, but it also sports real-time tactical combat in 3D environments with destructible elements.
Players will take command of a small band of resistance fighters, made up mostly of various types of waifus, all of whom play pivotal roles in the game, either as mechanics, engineers, explosive experts, assassins, or snipers.
You’ll have limited resources and girlpower at your disposal, so you’ll need to think wisely about how you use who you use because every fatal mistake can cost you dearly for the rest of the game.
You can get a glimpse of what Unconventional Warfare is like with the Kickstarter trailer below.
The trailer has a lot going on, not to mention that they definitely did themselves a favor by picking a relevant but unconventional song to match the unconventional strategy game that’s aptly named Unconventional Warfare.
As showcased, you’ll have to use a lot of quick-thinking like a real-time strategy game, moving and positioning the units as enemy forces reposition and attempt to flank you. You’ll have a bird’s eye view of the action but you can wheel down and zoom in to get a better look of what’s going on.
I was quite impressed with how counter-flanking can be setup by using the girls to pick off and suppress soldiers as they attempt to move around areas that leave them vulnerable. The gist is that you’ll have to think outside the box to whittle down the number of their forces and then pick them clean to the bone.
Taking damage, however, is not something you can disregard passively. Wounds stack up, will cost your soldiers their abilities, and eventually lead to death.
You’ll have to take care of your waifus the same way you take care of your gaming hardware: with a lot of patience, love and resources.
Each of the girls have a weapon slot, equipment slots, and personal inventory. You’ll have to wisely keep them stocked and geared, or customize them to your liking, which actually shows up in the game.
I’m a little amazed that this is being crowdfunded because it looks original, I love the Commandos style approach to the game but with its own unique twists and a focus on more hit-and-run style ambush scenarios sort of like the classic Hidden & Dangerous. It also reminds me in some ways of a real-time version of Valkyria Chronicles.
You can look for Unconventional Warfare‘s crowdfunding campaign to go live on February 28th, 2020 at the end of the week. You can head over to the Kickstarter page to sign-up with your e-mail to receive a notification for when the campaign goes live.
