RetroMania Wrestling Becomes Official Sequel To Technos’ Wrestlefest

Retrosoft Studios’ RetroMania Wrestling is gearing up for release on the PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch in 2020. Ahead of its mysterious release next year, the developers working on the game released a short developer diary giving gamers an update on what to expect from the upcoming title.

The new two and a half minute video goes over some interesting facts regarding the licensing of the Wrestlefest series, where it’s revealed that Arc System Works owns the rights to the old Technos Japan library, which includes Wrestlefest.

Retrosoft Studios was able to strike a deal with Arc System Works so that they could make RetroMania Wrestling the official sequel to the arcade game, Wrestlefest.

Development wise they’re still a long ways off from release.

In the video clip we get to see the NWA Powerrr ring set along with Hawk and Animal from the Road Warriors, the most legendary tag-team of all time. However, across from the Road Warriors there are two generic jabronies; so those template wrestlers still need to be filled out.

According to the official RetroMania Wrestling website, the roster at the moment includes the aforementioned Road Warriors, along with ECW’s “Innovator of Violence” Tommy Dreamer, Johnny Retro (who is actually John Morrison from the WWE), Big Stevie Cool, The Blue Meanie, Austin Idol, Colt Cabana, Nick Aldis, and New Japan’s Zack Sabre Jr.

There are two mystery slots available on the roster where supposedly two more character reveals will be made. It would seem like Demolition would make the cut given that you can’t have the Road Warriors without Demolition. But given that the roster also includes Tommy Dreamer and Zack Sabre Jr., I’m guessing anyone could make the cut.

I don’t mind the retro aesthetics of the game, but hopefully there’s a properly fleshed out movelist for each of the wrestlers and it launches at a commendable price.

You’ll have to stay tuned in on the official RetroMania Wrestling website to find out more about the game and keep up to date on how development is progressing for this eventual PC and home console release.
