Norwegian developer Misc Games and German publisher Astragon Entertainment announced that Fishing: Barents Sea – Complete Edition will make its way to home consoles starting December 10th, just in time for the holiday season.
The game originally came out for PC back in early 2018, featuring a series of fishing missions in the Barents Sea across an expansive career and additional DLC that launched later. Console gamers will have access to the full base game along with the King Crab DLC all jam packed into a single bundle.
You’ll start off with a tiny little boat and your objective is to catch fish, complete missions and earn enough dosh to finally upgrade your ride or buy a new one.
The bigger your boat the more challenging the missions, and you’ll need to keep moving up the ranks until you can take on some majestic king crabs.
It’s not just about throwing out lines or tossing nets into the water, though. Fishing: Barents Sea also requires players to exercise some quick reflexes and twitch-skills as each fishing boat and mechanism required to make catches are executed via interactive mini-games. This adds more to the game than just clicking on some tools and watching the process automate itself to completion.
Before heading out to sea you’ll need to make sure all your lines are stocked, you have plenty of bait, and your equipment is in functional order.
There’s a realistic simulation aspect to Fishing: Barents Sea, which is why it attracted such a hardcore and dedicated audience to its community.
You’ll have to deal with rival fishing boats, vicious and unforgiving weather, and teammates who may help or hinder you in your quest to become the best fisherman out of the Hammerfest port.
Astragon Entertainment will roll the game out as a digital-only release on PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. They don’t make any mention about the game making use of the HD Rumble or motion controls. It would seem like a perfect opportunity to capitalize on the Switch’s popularity with those kind of features, but I guess they’re passing it up to stick with more traditional gameplay controls.
In any case, you can look for Fishing: Barents Sea to drop for home consoles starting December 10th. The PC version is currently available both via retail and digital distribution right now.
