Moons of Madness Releases January 21st 2020

Cosmic horror is all blissful rage these days. Moons of Madness, the exploration game where you will enjoy brisk cardio as you gallivant away from unspeakable horrors on the red planet, has dropped a new trailer with an official release date. Come January 21st, 2020 you will be able to explore reaches no man was meant to see.

Moons of Madness will see players assume the role of an engineer by the name of Shane Newehart. After a soon to be prophetic dream you will be tasked with maintenance of the martian facility constructed by the Orochi Group.

Orochi being the a legendary monster from Japanese mythology with 8 heads and 8 tails, covered in moss and plants as its body extends over 8 valleys and 8 hills. Whereupon it’s death the rivers flowed red with blood and the hero Susanoo retrieved a mythical sword from its body. In true cosmic horror fashion the company you work for has  mythological origins that will likely tie into the narrative name.

Players will have to navigate through the horrors while carrying out their objectives while attempting to survive.

Moons of Madness will play out as a more open environment version of Frictional Games’ highly rated and best-selling horror title, Amnesia, with monsters you cannot fight and must run and possibly hide from while they stalk the facilities. Puzzles and mysteries scatter the world waiting to be discovered and unraveled.

The game looks to deliver an experience steeped in atmospheric isolation, as maddening horror gradually infects the entire martian facility. The player is hunted by horrific monstrosities that — while far from the indescribable Lovecraftian horrors they’re marketed as — manage to encapsulate something new and haunting. Whether this game will be a true Lovcraftian evolution of Amnesia or if it’ll end up being another walking sim with jump scares scattered about an unnerving environment, will be revealed when it launches next January.
