Life Is Strange Live-Action Digital Series Picked Up By Legendary Pictures

Dontnod Entertainment, Square Enix and Legendary Pictures have teamed up together to bring a live-action digital series based on Life is Strange to the small screen… or the computer screen… or the mobile screen… whatever. There’s a live-action version of the game in the works.

The press release has been making its way around the large media websites. The announcement originally came from Greg Siegel, the senior VP of development and production for Legendary Digital Studios, who stated in the press release…

“Life is Strange is one of those rare properties that combines incredibly developed characters and storylines with deeply engaging gameplay,” […] “It lends itself perfectly to live-action imaginings. We couldn’t be more excited to partner with Square Enix, DONTNOD Entertainment and dj2 to bring the world of Arcadia Bay to life in an exciting new way.”

This follows on the news recently where they released the first episode of the game for free to help get people hooked.

It wasn’t my kind of game because I’m not fond of teenagers and I hate teen dramas. The sci-fi aspects of the game were pretty cool, though, and I did like the time-traveling and multi-threaded universe that was constantly in flux throughout the various episodes. I was really curious how all of it was going to wrap up given that the lead protagonist, Max Claufield, seemed to be in a real pickle at one point and I would be lying if I said I wasn’t at the edge of my seat trying to figure out how she was going to get out of one very disturbingly harrowing situation.

Anyway, the project will be developed by Dmitri Johnson and Dan Jevons from dj2 Entertainment. According to the press release they just wrapped up working on Sonic The Hedgehog for Sony Pictures.

Jon Brooke, VP brand and European marketing at Square Enix chimed in with his own take on the news, mentioning in the press release…

“We’re proud and excited to be working alongside Legendary to realise a new version of Arcadia Bay and Blackwell Academy complete with our rich cast of realistic, believable characters and memorable events,”

“Now that the first episode of the Life is Strange game is free to download on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Mac and PC, there’s never been a better time to play or to introduce a friend to the beautiful world of Arcadia Bay”.

They don’t mention what streaming networks will pick up the show, but I’m pretty sure Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu will carry it. I do wonder if it will be available on Steam now that they have movies in their database? (And Steam really needs to let you buy certain movies instead of just renting them… I’m looking at you Hardcore Henry!)

There are talks about a second season of Life Is Strange at Dontnod, so if you want to learn more feel free to visit the official website.
