Marcin Iwiński Talks Cyberpunk 2077 At GDC 2017

Not too long ago CD Projekt Red’s co-founder, Marcin Iwiński, attended GDC 2017 and took the time to talk to another publication site about the Witcher series and its growth, and the development team’s latest project known as Cyberpunk 2077.

It’s been known for a while now that the Witcher 3 (and past entries) worked wonders for CD Projekt Red’s growth as a company, as well as building trust among fans of the development team and their games. This can be attributed to how the team handles DLC, as well as a list of other things that have fans dearly waiting for any news regarding the latest project up the company’s sleeve.

Due to the sheer amount of respect that the devs bestowed on fans of their games, the company has grown so that they look to expand CD Projekt Red as a whole so that they can do much bigger and ambitious things that wow gamers and make them proud of their purchase.

This can be seen in CD Projekt Red’s latest move in hiring more people to expand the team, which was posted on Twitter —  indicating that artist for Cyberpunk 2077 were needed to help visualize vehicles and other key things in the upcoming sci-fi RPG title.

In fact, if you head on over to CD Projekt Red’s Twitter account right now you will see a list of job hiring tweets looking for talented people interested in building up Cyberpunk 2077. As of this moment the team is looking for Graphic Programmers, Lead Artist, Tool Programmers and Gameplay Designers. More information on job listing can be found over at en.cdprojektred.com.

During all of this though, co-founder of CD Projekt Red, Marcin Iwiński, took up an interview with Glixel at GDC 2017 to talk about the Witcher series and Cyberpunk 2077.

When asked by the publication site that if Cyberpunk 2077 will take a leap in terms of being ambitious, sophisticated and fun, here’s what Iwiński had to say:

“We definitely hope so, but we never want to brag about things before we have something to show.”

He was later asked if VR would be something of interest:

“We are observing with interest. We are telling stories. If VR can help us, we’ll definitely consider it. But right now, I’m personally looking for something really substantial as an experience. Why did I pre-order the Switch? Not because I want the Switch. Because I want Zelda.”

“And also, I’m probably not a very good case, because I get nausea very fast.”

Sadly, that was all that the interview went over regarding Cyberpunk 2077. But other information that was revealed not too long ago also delves into some interesting things, like how players will need to buy translators to talk to other NPCs and so on due to a language barriers — which is something that could stand as an interesting feature if done correctly.

“We’re thinking about a system that could tell the world’s story. The idea is to record everything in original languages, i.e. if we’ll meet Mexicans in the game, they’ll be talking — Mexican slang even, portrayed by Mexican actors.”

This information noted above comes from CD Projekt Red’s lead writer, Sebastian Stepien, who took up an interview with Polygon. He went on to say that the quality of a translator implant will vary, meaning, like in any real RPG, there will be a shop or list of items around the world that sport grades on them. So the more expansive version may not always be the best bet due to its price, when you could easily steal a mediocre translator instead of a poor one to get your information off of some low-life thug — although the translation may not be accurate.

Furthermore, I know that some folks may not like multiplayer features in a single player-like game, but it was confirmed to EuroGamer by CD Projekt Red’s managing director, Adam Badowski, that…

“It will be a story-based RPG experience with amazing single-player playthroughs, but we’re going to add multiplayer features.”

I’m not sure how the multiplayer will be on launch, but at the moment nothing is known about how Cyberpunk 2077 will incorporate MP features while holding an “amazing” SP experience. In other words, we’ll have to wait and see how everything pans out.

It is also said that a feature entitled “Braindance” will be in the game that will let the player’s character experience the emotions, brain processes and muscle movement of another person in-game, as though they were the player’s character own. Not much information is known about this, but again, we’ll likely hear more about this “Braindance” function as development nears completion.

Lastly, the upcoming game based on Mike Pondsmith’s popular tabletop game Cyberpunk 2020,  will be running on an upgraded version of REDengine 3, and will come out when it’s ready. If you want any information ahead of the game look out for the upcoming tabletop game by Pondsmith that will release alongside the upcoming Cyberpunk game, which will also come out when it’s ready.
