Bluehole announced that after only being on Steam Early Access for three days, their multiplayer survival game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has managed to rack up $11 million in revenue.
Blues caught the press release from the developers, where they stated that the game has managed more than 150,000 viewers at any single time watching live-streams of the game, and that they’ve been able to hold steady with 67,000 concurrent users during peak hours…
“Currently holding strong as the number one seller on Steam, the game has earned more than eleven million dollars in revenue in just three days with more than 67,000 concurrent users (simultaneous active players).
“As the first standalone Battle Royale experience from the creator of the genre, PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS is number one on Twitch’s charts, boasting more than 150,000 viewers at a given time. The game has been featured on more than 3,600 streams since its launch on March 23, 2017.”
The game has received quite a bit of positive feedback from gamers who feel as if it’s the definitive Battle Royale survival experience.
A lot of other games have come out with similar kind of survival elements, but they either suffered from poor connectivity, lack of proper content or some other hindrance that ended up causing the community to move on elsewhere.
In this case the starting gate has been in Bluehole’s favor, and they’ve gotten off to a good start with a strong content roll out.
They only plan on being in Early Access for up to six months, so we’ll see how well they stick to that roadmap.
Some of the biggest complaints about PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds so far is that the game still isn’t optimized well enough to run consistently at 60fps, and there are also complaints about the servers occasionally crashing under heavy load. The latter problem will likely even out as the hype dies down and the server load becomes more balanced, where-as the former problem will require a lot of tender, love and care from Bluehole.
If you’re interested in a game about surviving on an island against dozens of other players in a kill or be killed sandbox deathmatch, you can check the game out over on the Steam store for $29.99. Alternatively, you can wait for the developers to finally finish the Early Access run and pick up a copy after the game has been finalized and completed.
