E3 2017: A Plague Tale: Innocence Sees Players Escaping From A Horde Of Killer Rats

Focus Home Interactive has really been stepping up their game in the mid-budget single A and double A space. The company has been behind some of the more recent noteworthy games to land on the market, such as The Surge and Sherlock Holmes. Their most recent game is A Plague Tale: Innocence, and it made its debut during this year’s E3.

The game is currently in development by Asobo Studio, and it’s set during medieval Europe. The teaser trailer for the game focuses on a young woman and a young boy fleeing through the woods and through the streets toward the safe haven of a chapel. Only, the chapel isn’t so safe. You can check out the teaser below.

It’s impossible to get a proper gauge on this game because we don’t get any actual gameplay. It looks as if players will have to take on the role of a protector of a young boy through a plague-infested countryside.

I couldn’t help but think about the rat plague in the game Dishonored, and how it nearly completely destroyed the town. We also see that the rats here in A Plague Tale are absolutely deadly. A Crusader is consumed by the vicious horde and eaten through and through.

Dire times were presented just ahead for the surviving duo as the rats encroached upon their position in the chapel.

One of the things we see is that light seems to keep the rats at bay, and it could end up playing a big part in the actual game (or at least we can hope).

The I imagine this will be a mixture of third-person stealth and third-person exploration. Details for this game are absolutely slim, and the official website doesn’t give anything away.

The YouTube page does explain that A Plague Tale is set during 1349 France, and players take on the role of Amicia as she attempts to protect her younger brother Hugo from the Inquisition.

They’ll have to meet up with other orphans and attempt to survive through hordes of the flesh-eating rats by using fire and light to keep them at bay.

What would be really cool is if it turns out the kids are actually witches. Now how crazy would that be?

No release date has been set for A Plague Tale: Innocence but it’s apparently coming soon.
