Microsoft Could Add Paid Loot-Boxes In New Xbox Career System

It is said that Microsoft is working on a new Xbox “Career” system with levels and Avatar loot-boxes. As it stands now, Microsoft hasn’t disclosed whether these Avatar loot-boxes will call for real money or not.

Microtransactions and loot-boxes accrue a lot of money for very little effort. EA has admitted several times that service type games and actions make up a lot of revenue.

It seems, though, that video games aren’t the only thing that will see microtransactions and loot-boxes featured in them, but major console players like Sony and Microsoft are looking to implement them into other casual apps as well.

Just recently, Sony Interactive Entertainment wanted to “appropriately explore” microtransactions. However SIE’s new president John (Tsuyoshi) Kodera noted that “PlayStation’s vision is totally different” when it comes to “games as a service”. In other words, we’ll have to wait and see how Sony handles this “games as a service” in the future.

Looking over to Microsoft, we learn from publication site windowscentral.com and YouTuber YongYea that the company wants to add levels and Avatar loot-boxes to a new Xbox “Career” system.

You can listen to the latter’s take on the situation and why Microsoft could integrate a paid service into this new “Career” achievement system:

It’s best to keep in mind that said publication site noted that…

“At this time, it doesn’t look as though loot crates will be purchasable with real money, but it’s probably too early to say whether that will be the case later on.”

It’ll be interesting to see how Sony and Microsoft handle these “games as service” models and if they will try to take advantage of their concurrent users or if they will add something completely different that doesn’t involve any real money?

Currently, both Sony and Microsoft are working on their service models as we speak, meaning that only time will tell how things will turn out.
