Nexon Says That PUBG Made It Tough For LawBreakers And Other FPS Games

Nexon has released its investor presentation Q3 2017 report that states Bluehole Studio’s PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has made it tough for FPS games in the current market. Nexon also claims that it has led to Boss Key Productions’ LawBreakers to have low concurrent players.

The arena shooter competitive game is not only available for PC, but it happens to be available for PS4.

Given that it’s currently available for PC and PS4 you’d think that it would be doing well when it comes to player count and units moved, right? Well, no. According to the figures out there, Lawbreakers has only been able to maintain 29 concurrent players, compared to the 3.1 million concurrent players in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.

You may be wondering why PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds made it into the equation? The reason behind it is that Nexon, the publisher of LawBreakers, claims in a Q3 2017 investor report that LawBreakers faced an unfortunate crawl in concurrent players and sales due to the battle royale game:

“Our results in North America in the third quarter were below our outlook, mainly due to the sales from LawBreakers being below our expectations. LawBreakers is a unique FPS developed for core users”.

The letter continued that…

“We had very high expectations for its launch; however, the timing of its launch turned out to be unfortunate, specifically the blockbuster PC online game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds came out right about the same time, making the market environment very tough for first-person shooters in general and for LawBreakers.”

According to the publication site, due to the performance of LawBreakers, Nexon has noted that it suffered higher-than-planned expenses. However the publisher found an offset thanks to the performances of Dungeon & Fighter, MapleStory2, FIFA Online 3, and AxE.

Nexon hasn’t disclosed the exact amount of money lost due to Lawbreakers, but the company did note that it accounts for the majority of their Q3 expenses, which totaled roughly around $32.6 million.
