ICEY, Sci-Fi Hack-and-Slash Side-Scroller Now Available On Nintendo Switch

Chinese publisher X.D. Network, announced that the 2D side-scrolling action game, ICEY, is currently available right now for the Nintendo Switch. The action title came out on PC back in 2016, and then later on the game was re-released for the PlayStation 4 in August of 2017.

The game became popular due to having multiple endings and being a somewhat fourth-wall breaking adventure. If you don’t know what it’s about, it takes place in a futuristic society where you take on the role of the eponymous character ICEY, hacking and slashing your way through every kind of enemy that stands in your way, including massive cyborgs and giant mech bosses.

You’ll need to utilize different kinds of techniques for different kinds of enemies while taking on the main boss, Judas.

You can see what the gameplay is like with the launch trailer below.

The gameplay reminds me of a side-scrolling version of Devil May Cry. The combos and special moves that you can execute are designed to pinpoint the weak spots on an enemy so you can take them out.

There’s also a hidden layer beneath game, where some form of commentary takes place beyond simply fighting and killing evil mechanized robots. It could almost be compared to The Stanley Parable.

Chinese developer Fantablade Network also included plenty of different skills to unlock to help aid you in battle, along with new moves, and additional weapons to collect. You’ll be able to play across multiple game modes and unlock different endings depending on the choices you make throughout the game.

ICEY has already moved more than 2 million units across mobile devices, PC and PS4, and now the game is available right now on the Nintendo eShop for the Nintendo Switch.

The press release doesn’t say anything about HD Rumble or any special features for the Switch version, but you can pick up a digital copy from the Nintendo eShop for just $9.99.
