BioWare Expresses Future Plans For Games And Projects

Not too long ago, another publication site interviewed BioWare’s general manager, Casey Hudson, and Anthem’s executive producer, Mark Darrah, and asked them to talk about the future of BioWare. The two expressed how they don’t want to become an “Anthem-only” development studio but one that has room for experimental, smaller games and projects.

Publication site Game Informer posted up a video interview featuring the two talking about the company’s future, and their thoughts on the industry. Hudson expressed the way the industry is going at this point allows players to have a close to AAA experience, without necessarily having to invest in a full-scale AAA game.

In other words, Hudson believes the games industry is slowly shifting toward an AA experience as it progresses into the future. However, Hudson explains that Bioware might be able to do something similar going forward. Something similar to a game like Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice or short films, which BioWare could use as a “testbed” for “future ideas.”

When the publication site asked Darrah whether mixing things up is important or not, he responded with the following:

“It’s incredibly important. We have a team working on Dragon Age now, and I think it is incredibly important that we don’t become one note.”

Moreover, Hudson went on to give his take on BioWare and the industry moving forward:

“I think some of the things that are coming, just in the way that we’re doing things in Bioware, and EA, and the way the industry is going, I think it is starting to afford us the opportunity for us to do some things that are more experimental. I would like for us to get to a place where, yes, we’re working on our next big thing, but we’re also getting the equivalent of short films out there.

 

That’s a lot of fun. There’s a lot of people here that have ideas that they want to get out, without waiting for the next big thing.”

According to Hudson, this would be a good move from a business perspective. He believes Bioware can get some of the ideas it has been sitting on out quicker, and see how people react to them — via smaller AA budget games and short films.
