According to a new report, senior vice president of Tencent, Steven Ma, and Nintendo executive, Satoru Shibata, will both appear at a Switch event held in China on August 2nd, 2019. This event will offer the first official update since announcing the partnership between the two back in April.
After the recent announcement over on weibo.cn that the Chinese gaming giant, Tencent, plans on working with The Pokémon Company via its TiMi Studio it looks like Tencent and Nintendo have plans on hosting a Switch press conference in China early August.
As mentioned above, Tencent and Nintendo will host a joint press conference in Shanghai where Ma and Shibata will make an appearance. This information comes from gamesindustry.biz.
The publication site also shines a light on Tokyo-based consultant Dr. Serkan Toto saying that the press conference in question arrives around the same time as Tencent opens official, Switch-related social media accounts in China.
The website does question exactly how fruitful the Chinese market could be for the Switch given that in May (of this year), Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said:
“We don’t expect our video game business in China to easily expand. The reality… is that the Chinese games market is almost all mobile games and PC games. The market for dedicated video game platforms [like the Switch] has not been very large, so we recognize that this will be a new challenge for us.”
In other words, Furukawa and crew recognized that over in China mobile games, and PC games are the most lucrative. However, proprietary devices like the Switch aren’t as big, but since that market is almost uncharted Nintendo is willing to take the risk to make a profit out of it with the help of shekel driven Tencent.
Lastly, this Switch event in China is slated to drop on August 2nd, 2019.
