EA and DICE managed to turn a renowned name such as Star Wars: Battlefront into a joke much like the team behind Star Wars Episode VII and VIII — and we can throw Episode IX in there too. However, after the loot-box scandal, DICE had to gut the system and make the pay-to-win game into something else and will continue to “improve” the title by skipping out on a new installment in the Battlefront series.

In other words, there are no plans for a Star Wars: Battlefront 3 as it stands right now. This information comes via an interview between Battlefront 2’s design director, Dennis Brännvall, and website PCGamesN (archive.is).

Brännvall happened to be at Gamescom 2019 when the interview took place, and of course, the publication site wound up at the games event where the exchanging of words went down with said design director.

Here’s what Brännvall had to say about making Star Wars: Battlefront 3:

“Sequels are probably still viable otherwise people wouldn’t be doing them, but it’s not the same hunger as it used to be.”

Brännvall continues and elaborates that fixing the controversial 2017 game is more important than shipping out four DLCs or so and then moving on:

“We were so used to the chain of sequels, where we do a sequel then we do a season pass for a year then move onto the next game. I think the industry has changed on that… before it was very transactional and we made the game and we signed up for 4 DLCs and then that’s it. So then you focus on getting value to players out of what they paid for and if there was a system that wasn’t working then you put a pin in that and say we will fix it in the sequel. This time around we’re not doing it that way.”

One thing is for sure, anytime EA and its subsidiaries deliver a new title, there are always headlines talking about some degeneracy or kerfuffle about their games. In other words, we have a lot of time before EA (and its crew) try to overtake Bethesda, 2K, the Epic Games Store, and others in stupidity… for now.

With that said, what can Star Wars: Battlefront 2 fans expect moving forward? Well, content updates, quality of life changes, and more according to Brännvall:

“You’ll see us really overhauling bits that aren’t working and not be afraid of changing things, which means that your community is happier because it’s a better game overall.”

Battlefront 2 is currently available for Xbox One, PS4 and on Origin for PC.
