Sam Lake Creator Of Max Payne And Control Announces Work On New Story

Sam Lake is teasing work on a “new story” that calls for him to take to his brand new top-secret writing lair. No word on what this new project is, but what is for certain is that the creator of Max Payne, Alan Wake, Quantum Break, and Control is doing something “new.”

Catching wind from publication site dualshockers.com, the website makes mention that Lake is up to something and it’s all due to the following tweet that implies more than the usual stuff is going down as we speak:

The bit of “You have been warned” lets us know that this is an announcement and that everything from here on out shouldn’t come in as a surprise due to said warning.

Throwing caution into the mix, Dual Shockers notes that this new story or project may not have any relations to the games industry in that it could be a TV show:

“[…] What Lake could be writing here might not be related to gaming at all. Last year, it was confirmed that an Alan Wake would soon be adapted into a television series. Lake himself is serving as an executive producer on the series and will very much be hands-on with the project. Perhaps what he’s teasing here could be related to that forthcoming show.”

If it isn’t a TV show and is indeed a new game, there’s no telling if Lake will do a prequel or a sequel to an already established world or if he’ll go down the route of a new IP.

Speaking of new games, will this new title hit the Epic Games Store and be a timed exclusive like Control? While we wait to find out whether this new work will hit the idiot tube or PC and home consoles, Control is Lake’s most recent work.

On the topic of Control, the Epic Games Store paid $10.45 million respectively for 505 Games and Remedy’s Control — despite the game failing to make various top ten charts. However, a new game mode is coming this December, along with the first 2020 expansion dubbed “The Foundation.” The second expansion, “Awe”, is slated for release sometime in mid-2020.
