No matter the number of people opposing Pokémon Sword and Shield and the problems found in the two games, sales are keeping the pair up just fine thanks to normies. As a matter of fact, it is reported that the two are the longest-reigning Famitsu chart toppers to date.
Keeping up with the Japanese weekly sales chart, gamingbolt.com has found that the controversial duo has pulled off a “special” feat in that the two set a new record when it comes to how long a number one game has sat on Famitsu’s chart.
The website highlights that Pokémon Sword and Shield have been on top of Famitsu sales charts for “nine weeks in a row,” which is a new record regarding how long a game has held the top spot.
Moreover, the latest implementation in the ongoing monster-catching series has broken the record that was previously held by Pokemon Diamond and Pearl.
For perspective, Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, which were on top for eight consecutive weeks, dominated the Japanese sales chart in 2006.
I should note that this won’t be the last we’ll hear about these two games in that Pokémon Sword and Shield will likely sell even more with the help of “The Isle of Armor” and “The Crown of Tundra” DLCs.
The first expansion is due out sometime this summer while the second is slated to drop later this year, bringing with them new and returning Pokémon as well as new places to explore. Nintendo also hinted at “a colorful cast of new characters” that will appear at launch bringing with them “new story material.”
With all of that said, Pokémon Sword and Shield may have made headlines for all the wrong reasons before launch, but it looks like the two games that are no stranger to raising eyebrows will continue to sell like hotcakes, according to Famitsu.
