Capcom will be removing user-generated content and closing the Unity forums on May 6th. They will be replacing the community portals with a Discord channel for gamers to use.

Sankaku Complex did an article about the changes coming May 6th, where user pages will be wiped and all of the user-generated content on the site’s forums will be expunged.

The Capcom Unity website will still function as a news hub for updates and information put out by Capcom.

According to Siliconera, new posts and threads have been halted as of April 15th, 2020.

Some users have already begun archiving their content using sites like archive.is.

Alternatively, it’s possible to cache user pages using the Wayback Machine once Capcom nukes them from orbit.

A lot of the forum threads there used to be a great way to spread the word about Capcom’s corruption, especially during the disc-locked content days and when they were caught engaged in any kind of corruption or anti-consumer practices. You could typically use the forums to air some grievances and catalog what was happening during the controversy. However, now that will no longer be possible once the forums go kaput.

The switch from traditional forums and comment threads to Discord is the company trying to get hip with the times. However that comes with its own problems, especially when considering Discord’s own tainted history. That’s not to mention that Discord doesn’t really allow for easy archiving or threading like traditional forums so it’s much harder to organize pushback against certain company decisions.

If there were any conversations or discussions that you valued from the Capcom Unity forums or user pages, it would probably best to archive them now, because you only have a week to do so before May 6th gets here and Capcom wipes the slate clean.
