Resident Evil 3 Remake Ships 2 Million In Less Than A Week, But Trails Pace Of Last Year’s Remake

You’ve likely seen that Capcom’s Resident Evil 3 Remake shipped more than 2 million copies in its first five days after release, right? Well, although the 2020 game has done so, the new title still trails the pace of last year’s Resident Evil 2 Remake, according to a new report.

Thanks to website gamesindustry.biz, we learn that the publisher posted up the sales results for Resident Evil 3 Remake, which nearly half of the PC, PS4, and Xbox One sales are digital.

With the above said, you are probably thinking, “Oh, so the game is doing well!?” To that question, the publication site reports that the reimagined Resident Evil 3 is “off to a slower start than last year’s Resident Evil 2 remake,” which shipped 3 million within its first five days on sale.

In other words, there is a 1 million discrepancy in sales within the first five days of launch when comparing Resident Evil 3 Remake to Resident Evil 2 Remake.

However, one could argue that the recent pandemic played a part in the third remake’s numbers, hence the surge in digital downloads — with nearly 50% of the units being digital over physical copies shipped.

It’s also worth noting that the publication site highlights parallels between the past Resident Evil games to their future remakes. The website notes that the 1998 Resident Evil 2 cumulatively sold 4.96 million copies, while 1999’s Resident Evil 3: Nemesis sold a total of 3.5 million units.

And as noted on April 9th, 2020, the above website reported that Resident Evil 3 Remake sold “fewer than half the number of units of last year’s Resident Evil 2 Remake” on the UK charts. However, we’ll find out how the game fared when Famitsu and the U.S. NPD Group releases their numbers.

Lastly, Resident Evil 3 Remake shipped more than 2 million copies in its first five days after release. As it stands now, the game is trailing behind Resident Evil 2 Remake by 1 million copies, with last year’s remake now accounting for 6.5 million units.
