Streets Of Rage 4 Battle Mode Returns, Release Date Set For April 30th

LizardCube, Guard Crush Games and DotEmu rolled out a new trailer for Streets of Rage 4, revealing that the game’s iconic Battle Mode, which is basically just a versus mode, is making a comeback. The Battle Mode will feature eight playable stages where you can duke it out with your buddies.

Some of the stages also come with hazards that you can manipulate to help gain an upperhand during the fight.

You’ll also be able to select from 12 playable characters, including the retro sprites from the old Sega Genesis games (still, I hope they reveal a filter of some sort for the old character sprites so they don’t look so out of place).

You can check out the trailer below to get an idea of what the Battle Mode will look and play like.

The stages include the Y Tower, To The Concert, Skytrain, Police Precinct, Y Island, Cargo Ship, The Streets, and Chinatown.

The Battle Mode also includes team options so you can have four players duking it out in a battle royale-style showdown, or two people tag-teaming against two others. Alternatively you can do handicap matches if someone is really good and everyone else is a scrub.

While there are some obvious drawbacks to the Cherry character, I do like that you can unlock a bunch of characters and that it’s the first Streets of Rage game that supports up to four players.

There are also going to be limited physical copies available for those who pre-order, including a special limited edition Genesis carrying case for the Switch and PS4. There’s also the inclusion of the soundtrack, a steelbook, a reversible cover, and the full physical version of the game.

You can look for Streets of Rage 4 to launch on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC on April 30th.
