PS5 Aims To Bring The Best Value But Not The lowest Price, Says Jim Ryan

Many outlets have posted up multiple editorials and opinion pieces on the price point of the Xbox Series X and the PS5. However, we may not know the exact numbers for both next-gen consoles right now, but we do know that Sony will attempt to bring the “best value” to its customers instead of a lower price point later this year.

Fans of Sony and PlayStation wondering whether or not the PS5’s price point will be something easy on the wallet might find something else at launch. Website videogameschronicle.com cites Jim Ryan — president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment — saying that the company would rather provide a product of value but not one that’ll necessarily bring the lowest price.

The website highlights Ryan saying in a recent interview that the best thing Sony can do to address the economic situation or recession is to offer “the best possible value proposition” possible:

“It’s quite logical, people don’t have the money to go out so they stay at home. Now, who knows how this recession is going to look, how deep it will be and how long it will last. It could be that the historic templates, the historic models, that have applied in the past may not apply in the future.”

Ryan furthers his thought process on the current economic situation and the PS5 and notes that he wasn’t referring to a low price point but “the best value” the company has to offer:

“I don’t necessarily mean lowest price. Value is a combination of many things. In our area it means games, it means number of games, depth of games, breadth of games, quality of games, price of games… all of these things and how they avail themselves of the feature set of the platform [PS5].”

The website also highlights Ryan saying that Sony wants to make the PS5 “an attractive proposition to consumers” since Ryan believes “gaming is a business that historically benefits from economically difficult times.”

The PS5 will launch sometime late this year during the holiday season.
