EA Wants To Double Down On LucasArts And Disney Partnership To Make More Star Wars Games

It looks like there’s going to be more Star Wars from EA in the foreseeable future. In a recent investor call, company CEO Andrew Wilson touched on the success of the license currently under EA and how the partnership between LucasArts and Disney will strengthen moving forward.

In other words, get ready to see more Star Wars sequels and IPs from EA, given that the loot-box happy company will double-down when it comes to its relationship with LucasArts and Disney.

The above information comes from videogameschronicle.com, which the website cites Wilson saying the following:

“Up is my hope: up and to the right! I would say again, we have a tremendous relationship with Disney [and] we have a tremendous relationship with LucasArts – we have a long-standing relationship with them going all the way back to Star Wars: The Old Republic, which we launched in 2011.

We’ve had success in first-person shooters, in RPGs, in action-adventure, in MMORPGs, in mobile and I believe we’re going to have success in Squadrons as well.

So again, I think that we’re going to double down on that partnership. Disney continues to be very, very committed to the IP and the canon, and continue to create new content.”

Moreover, EA wants to take Star Wars in the future “up and to the right” when it comes to market value. This means we’ll likely see more monetization schemes that cause less controversy while raking in significant amounts of money.

So what does this all mean? It means EA will do favors for LucasArts and Disney to strengthen the current relationship to keep the Star Wars license. From here, expect more games and IPs from EA exploring the heavily defiled Star Wars franchise.

Right now, EA and Motive Studios are working on shipping Star Wars: Squadrons for PC and home consoles come October 2nd, 2020.
