There’s no denying that the Xbox Team can’t quite cut it in Japan like its counterparts (Sony and Nintendo). Even the head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, made mention in the past that the Xbox brand needs to do better in the land of the rising sun. Well, it looks like the Xbox Team will attempt to “bolster” its performance in Japan this holiday season with the Xbox Series X as per a new report. Keep in mind that Microsoft and Xbox are both on the Traitors of America Master List.
Website videogameschronicle.com sourced a statement supplied to famitsu.com, which depicts the Xbox Team wanting to improve next-gen performance in Japan compared to Xbox’s current family of consoles.
If you don’t know, the former website makes mention of the Xbox One shipping almost a year later in Japan (September 4th, 2014) compared to its release in the West (November 22nd, 2013).
Instead of releasing almost a year later in the country that birthed Xbox’s counterparts, Spencer recently said that he felt the platform’s market position in Japan isn’t “acceptable” and wants to do “a much better job” with the Series X launch:
“Our market in Japan for Xbox is important to us. Obviously, Sony and Nintendo are both strong Japanese companies who have done a great job. I don’t know if we’re winning in Japan any time soon, but the position that we have in Japan today from a platform isn’t acceptable to me.
We’re going to do a much better job with this next, upcoming launch of not waiting ten months to launch in Japan like we did last time. We’re going to make sure our services like Game Pass, xCloud and stuff are there so people will have access to it.”
It’s also worth noting that the Xbox Team will bring games like Halo: Infinite, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Scarlet Nexus, and Bright Memory: Infinite to Japan after the Series X makes its debut this holiday season.
In other words, the Xbox Team is trying its hardest to make a breakthrough in Japan. With that said, we’ll see how this plan will pan out come Q4 2020.
