Resident Evil 3 Remake’s Launch Sales Are Significantly Lower Than Past Entries, As Per Capcom

Capcom recently shared its video game sales data for investors and the public to look over during its most recent financial results, and it looks like Resident Evil 3 Remake’s launch numbers are the lowest in the mainline series of games, as per the publisher’s data.

Publication site videogameschronicle.com picked up on Capcom’s latest report via capcom.co.jp/ir, and highlights that as of June 30th, Resident Evil 3 Remake has sold around 2.7 million units after nearly three months of being out across PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Both the website and Capcom note that that figure marks a significant sales decline of 55% when comparing the 2020 game to Resident Evil 2 Remake’s two-month launch sales of 4.2 million.

Moreover, comparing Resident Evil 3 Remake numbers to Resident Evil 7’s two-month launch sales of 3.5 million translates out to be a 30% decline.

If you want a better look at Resident Evil 3 Remake’s numbers or launch data compared to its predecessors, a handy list lies below:

  • Resident Evil 5 — 5 million in three months
  • Resident Evil 6 — 4.8 million in three months
  • Resident Evil 2 Remake — 4.2 million in nine weeks
  • Resident Evil 7 — 3.5 million in nine weeks
  • Resident Evil 3 Remake — 2.7 million in 12 weeks

Furthermore, the website also touches on how Capcom this year has sold almost double the number of back catalog Resident Evil titles than copies of Resident Evil 3 Remake, which is embarrassing.

However, Capcom attempts to play off Resident Evil 3 Remake’s questionable performance in its latest financial results in that it describes the game’s launch sales as “solid.”

Anyway, we’ll see how well Capcom’s next Resident Evil title performs given that the next series installment, Resident Evil Village, is set to release across PC and next-gen consoles like PS5 and Xbox Series X sometime in 2021.

Lastly, Resident Evil 3 Remake is out now since April 3rd, 2020, and is available to pick up for PC via Steam, PS4, and Xbox One.
