Uncharted 4 Manages To Sell 8.7 Million Copies On PS4

Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 4 – the swan song for Nathan Drake’s adventures – came to an end on a high note, managing to move 8.7 million units over the course of the year for the PS4.

The news was made via a press release Sony sent out that other sites are regurgitating in mass. According to COG Connected the figures counted ranged from the launch of Uncharted 4 on May 10th, 2016 up until December 21st, 2016.

Not bad.

They also report that the PS4 has managed to move more than 50.4 million software copies both digitally and physically were sold during the holiday season between November 20th, 2016 and December 31st, 2016.

The stats refer to global sales.

Uncharted 4 managed to beat out Uncharted 3 by a significant margin, given that the previous game moved 3.8 million copies within its launch day, according to Game Rant, and went on to sell several million more copies. Uncharted 4 launched with a much smaller sell-through week, only moving 2.7 million copies, but it managed to move many more copies over the course of the year than Uncharted 3 did in its lifetime.

Personally I didn’t like Uncharted 4 as much as I enjoyed Uncharted 3. There were fewer blockbuster set-pieces, they removed some of the melee combat mechanics, they had a lot of samey platforming segments, and the humor was toned down for a more serious adventure. That’s not to mention that there were no memorable boss fights outside of the Madagascar chase, and the villains weren’t all that interesting compared to Uncharted 2 and Uncharted 3.

Anyway, it doesn’t look like Naughty Dog is slowing down at any rate and they’ll likely attempt to carry that momentum over into the release of The Last of Us 2, which is currently in development. There’s no release date set for The Last of Us 2 but it’s likely due for release at some point in 2018.
