Square Enix Planning Guardians Of The Galaxy Game, According To Report

Rumors are swirling that Eidos Montreal will be hanging up their development duties on Deus Ex: Mankind Divided for a while after they release some standalone DLC. In fact, the Deus Ex franchise will be going on hiatus until Eidos is done working on a new Tomb Raider game and helping out Crystal Dynamics with a game based on the Avengers and apparently a Guardians of the Galaxy game that Square Enix signed a deal with Marvel to publish.

The news comes from partial rumor and partial report from Eurogamer, where Eidos Montreal did confirm that they’re working on some new Marvel properties and that they’ll be wrapping up the DLC for Deus Ex before moving on to other projects…

“While we are still working on expanding the Deus Ex Universe, along with creating new content and updates for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, we’re also devoting our talents towards working with Crystal Dynamics and Marvel on The Avengers project.”

Previously rumors popped up suggesting that Eidos was working on Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the supposed sequel to Crystal Dynamics’ Rise of the Tomb Raider. The third entry in the rebooted series is being moved away from Crystal Dynamics according to most accounts, and Rhianna Pratchett decided to take leave from Crystal Dynamics.

I have no idea how well Tomb Raider will turn out. The rebooted games have a decided different tone, focusing more on Lara’s struggle to survive against impossible odds rather than her uncanny ability to scale and traverse impossible terrain.

There are no details yet on the upcoming Marvel games that Eidos and Crystal Dynamics are working on, but Marvel and Square announced previously that they would be formally announcing the new Marvel games in 2018. Gamers will have to sit back and wait a while before that time comes around.

In the meantime, there will be a Telltale series based around the Guardians of the Galaxy that will stretch for five episodes.
