I’m sure you are like me and despise rumors, right? Well, if you do there is good news in the form of an actual announcement from Bethesda for Bethesda fans, as well as details on some other upcoming projects from the developers. When Todd Howard was asked about Bethesda’s future he announced that the Elder Scrolls 6 is in the works, as well as two other projects.
I’m sure a lot of hardcore fans already know this, but those who aren’t always up to date on every announcement will more than likely be happy to know that the Elder Scrolls 6 is currently being worked on, as well as two new games.
The information above comes from IGN and Polygon (don’t worry, both publications sites are linked through archive.is), in which Todd Howard took the time to talk to both sites during DICE 2017 to talk about what Bethesda has in store for gamers in the form of future titles.
Before jumping into the new titles just yet, Howard told the sites some of the things that Bethesda is working on and what they would like to better in future titles, especially open world games:
“Open world games have gotten more popular, so we have to think about creating the kinds of interactivity that make you feel like you’re really in that world. We want to avoid activities that feel too ‘gamey’ and that take you out of the story.”
In other words I think Howard was implying that he didn’t want future Bethesda open world games to feel empty and like they are filled with fetch quest that suck you out of the world/story. I think AI also plays a part in that, who wants to play in a world where you need mods to fix the AI because they’re lacking in so many areas? However, Howard also touches on that subject by saying that…
“I think we have a very long way to go in how the other characters act and react to you. That’s the big issue we’re trying to solve. We’re pretty good at pushing technology and world building. We have a good handle on game flow, the rate you get new things, how you’re rewarded over time. But we need to be innovating on [characters].”
When Polygon asked Howard about some of the new things that Bethesda is developing he didn’t dance around the question. Instead he replied that…
“The Elder Scrolls 6 is also working its way through development, but is unlikely to be seen any time soon.”
So there you have it, straight from the meme’s mouth. The Elder Scrolls 6 is in the works, but won’t be seen any time soon. It does make one wonder if the game will improve on past mistakes, or create new problems while stealing other popular modders’ ideals to stand as an answer to a question that nobody asked? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
Looking over to the new “two big games” that Howard gave no real specifics on during the interviews, we learn that they’re supposedly to be different from anything that Bethesda has done, while keeping the familiar “Bethesda style”. Howard went on to say that…
“They’re different from anything we’ve done before while also being a Bethesda style game: big and crazy. But in many ways different from what we’ve done before.”
Howard notes that Bethesda has increased in size and tech and wants to look into some of the things that the team has talked about for a very long time, which is now within the team’s grasp.
Lastly, Howard mentioned that players still haven’t found everything in Fallout 4. He noted that there’s something hidden in a terminal somewhere. If you want to look for Godd Howard’s secret thing you can on PC via Lord Gaben’s Steam, or on Xbox One and PS4. But if Fallout’s not your thing Skyrim is out for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3, while the Special Edition is for PC, Xbox One and PS4.
