PlayerUnknown’s Battleground Sells 1 Million Copies While Still In Early Access

Even though it’s still in Early Access, developer Bluehole announced that their game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has sold 1 million copies on Steam.

Blues picked up news of the press release, where they reveal…

“Holding strong as Steam’s number one seller for more than two weeks, Bluehole and Brendan Greene (aka PLAYERUNKNOWN) announced today that PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS has sold more than one million units on Steam Early Access in 16 days. PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS has remained in the top three concurrent user count on Steam, peaking at more than 89,000 simultaneous active players at a given time.”

The press release also notes that they’ve reached 150,000 concurrent viewers on Twitch, convincing more than 2,000 streamers to stream the game everyday and keep the masses coming back for more.

The game originally started as a mod for Arma 2 following the DayZ craze for the game.

Shortly after launching they had announced that the game had racked in $11 million over the course of just three days after Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds entered into Early Access near the end of March.

The game is a Battle Royale-inspired survival game set on a large island where players will parachute in and attempt to be the last one standing at the end of the round.

Much like DayZ, Last Man Standing or H1Z1, players must scavenge nearby structures, houses and other areas to find useful equipment and weapons while avoiding being killed on sight.

There are vehicles, melee attacks, guns, and a wide assortment of different armor to equip.

Some people think that now that they’ve become millionaires they’ll drop the game and not bother updating it anymore, taking the money and running away.

However, according to Bluehole, they plan on finishing up Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds within the six months of having launched. So we’ll see if they’ll be graduating from Early Access before fall gets here.
