Nintendo Switch Beats PS4, Xbox One Again In August NPD

Nintendo’s little Switch that could is starting to show some muscle in the sales department. It had a rough time early on due to a limited supply spawned from a lack of parts in manufacturing, causing it to slip out of first place after getting off to a strong multi-million-unit-selling start back in March. However, the Big ‘N’ has rebounded and the Switch is now king of NPD, two months running.

Fortune is reporting that the Nintendo Switch beat both the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 in the latest NPD Group’s report for August, 2017. Numerical values on the beatdown weren’t provided, but it’s safe to assume there was a clear enough gap for the NPD to count it as a winner.

Nintendo had mentioned back in June that they would be ramping up production of the Nintendo Switch to meet demand for July and August. It remains to be seen if they will continue to have supply ready for September and October, especially given that those will be very important months to get the system up and out in time for the holiday season sales rush.

The top 20 software sales for August saw Madden NFL 18 taking the top spot, but it was followed closely by GTA V and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Splatoon 2 wasn’t far behind, taking the fourth spot. You can check out the chart below, but it doesn’t include digital sales, as noted by Venture Beat.
