PS5 Digital Edition Exists Due To Consumers Wanting Digital Content, Says Jim Ryan

Sony will release the PS5 digital edition later this year, despite being on the Traitors of America list. Although some people believe that this is a response to one-up Microsoft’s Xbox One S All Digital edition, Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) president and CEO Jim Ryan has another answer. The reason behind the digital PS5 is that SIE has found “more people like buying” their games digitally.

With suckers turning into “coomsumers” every minute while purchasing literal propaganda without question, it looks like SIE and Ryan have been inspired by this “trend” and thus birthed the PS5 digital edition.

The above information comes from publication site gamesindustry.biz, noting how Ryan and crew are looking to play on this consumer base through an all-digital next-gen console. Here’s an excerpt of Ryan talking about PlayStation owners preferring digital content over physical games:

“Many of our consumers are purchasing solely digitally these days. We thought that we would do what we typically try and do, and just offer choice.”

Ryan and company aren’t worried about this plan toppling over since the games industry is a business that is “more recession-proof” than others:

“Conventional wisdom and history show that our business is one of the more recession-proof businesses. But I think this will sharpen our need to ensure that we focus on getting the value equation right. And I emphasise value as opposed to price”

However, when Ryan was asked about the PS5 and its sibling’s price (due to his value over price comment), he responded with the following:

“You’re not going to hear anything on price today.”

In other words, Ryan says that there is a growing number of PlayStation fans that want a digital console to “buy digital games that have value” rather than picking up physical copies that have better pricing.

Lastly, we’ll likely find out the price for the PS5 and its twin sibling, but we do know that the blue brand will release the consoles sometime this holiday season.
