Phil Spencer Reiterates That Xbox Series X First-Party Games Will Release 2 Years From Now

Way back on January 10th, 2020, the head of Microsoft Studios or Matt Booty said that folks looking for first-party Xbox Series X games must wait two years to see more “exclusives.” Recently confirming and reiterating said information comes Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, saying that first-party Xbox Series X games will arrive in two more years.

In case you are unaware of what Mr. Booty said earlier this year about the time frame of next-gen Xbox exclusives and first-party games, you can read what he said right here:

“As our content comes out over the next year, two years, all of our games, sort of like PC, will play up and down that family of devices. We want to make sure that if someone invests in Xbox between now and [Series X] that they feel that they made a good investment and that we’re committed to them with content.”

As of today, Spencer wrote up a long blog post saying the usual corporate stuff to convey many things to gamers and readers alike. Moreover, you can read what Spencer had to say right here which confirms what Booty said earlier this year thanks to videogameschronicle.com:

“You won’t be forced into the next generation. We want every Xbox player to play all the new games from Xbox Game Studios. That’s why Xbox Game Studios titles we release in the next couple of years—like Halo Infinite—will be available and play great on Xbox Series X and Xbox One. We won’t force you to upgrade to Xbox Series X at launch to play Xbox exclusives.”

So what does this mean? It means that aside from Halo: Infinite, there’s going to be a huge drought of first-party Xbox Series X games. Said titles aren’t going to appear until two years later for folks to consume, which will also appear on PC and the list of other Xbox family of consoles.

It’s unclear at this point if Halo: Infinite will still have test flights later this year. However, it is certain that said game will launch around the same time as the Xbox Series X this holiday season. Nevertheless, the Xbox Team’s other exclusives will debut sometime in 2022.
