In recent news regarding the AAA scene comes that of Crytek partnering up with tech start-up Improbable to integrate parts of SpatialOS into CryEngine to make something “better.” This move is said to help Crytek create a new AAA game with Improbable, but details on the game itself is currently under wraps.
Yes, another AAA game will be coming your way, and it might even bring those lovable AAA standards similar to Fallout 76 and Battlefield V to the table. But with all jokes aside, a new post has gone up on cryengine.com detailing the following:
“Crytek is committed to making solutions available to its developers that allow them to create unique interactive experiences, while respecting their freedom of choice of tools and services.
With that in mind, Crytek is planning to work closely with Improbable to create a fully-featured SpatialOS Game Development Kit for CRYENGINE for its forthcoming titles. Progress has already been made on this, and CRYENGINE developer Automaton has created its own open source integration with SpatialOS for its forthcoming 1000-player battle royale title Mavericks: Proving Grounds.”
To clarify the above, Crytek is working closely with Improbable to create a “fully-featured” SpatialOS Game Development Kit that works with CryEngine. This partnership isn’t a short term thing, insofar that the pair want this tech to be used in other future products.
In addition to this, developer Automaton has created its own open source CryEngine integration with SpatialOS for its forthcoming 1,000-player battle royale title “Mavericks: Proving Grounds.” Said game is currently titled “Mavericks: The Forge,” which is the early version that enables them to test the game with the community.
Moreover, the blog post continues with the writer of the blog expressing how they want to be the start of something bigger while working with other technologists and developers to create a “best-in-class” and “ever-improving” system:
“We’re proud to partner with Improbable, but we want it to be the start of something bigger. We want to work with other technologists, tool makers, and developer services to create a best-in-class and ever-improving experience. If you share our vision, please reach out to us, so we can build a better age of online games and virtual worlds together.
We’re excited to announce that Improbable and Crytek will be working together on a new AAA game together, built using CRYENGINE and SpatialOS. We’ll be giving more detail on this AAA game project soon – stay tuned!”
At the end of the last paragraph, the Crytek blog post explains how the team wants to make a new AAA game with Improbable using CryEngine and SpatialOS. However, time will tell how this AAA game will pan out.
Lastly, what do you think the duo will make? Another online multiplayer game, a single-player game, something refreshing, another safe project that brings nothing new or a current year political project?
