Reports are going around that Cyberpunk 2077 narrative director and setting director, Sebastian Stępień, has joined the Blizzard Entertainment ranks. The native from Poland has worked on every major Witcher release under CD Projekt Red, and is now looking to become a star designer at Blizzard.
According to NicheGamer, Stępień has joined up with Blizzard Entertainment but still has his credentials listed as “Present” at CD Projekt Red. This is actually true if you visit his LinkedIn profile.
It shows that he’s still presently at CD Projekt Red.
Some question if he was just slow to update his profile or if he’s still actually with CD Projekt, finishing up his duties on Cyberpunk 2077 before starting his new job over at Blizzard. If that really is the case, then it might mean that Cyberpunk 2077’s narrative structure is complete, or it could mean the opposite and that they have to hire in someone new to rework, revamp, and restructure the game’s narrative.
Either way, he’s taking up his task and hauling his yoke under Blizzard’s watch. According to Gamasutra, Stępień is working on an unnamed project as the creative director, which could be anything from Diablo to a brand new IP.
Blizzard could use all the help they can get after butchering Overwatch and turning it into a politically correct prison for Social Justice masochists, as well as tanking their own stock after the Diablo: Immortal announcement, and for basically throwing up their hands on supporting Heroes of the Storm.
It’s hard to tell if this spells good or bad news for Cyberpunk 2077, but I haven’t been impressed with anything I’ve seen of that game so far, so either Sebastian Stępień is bailing after doing a job well done, or he’s getting out of dodge before the turd parade strolls through town, leaving it a hot, steamy, smelling mess.
