Lords Of The Fallen 2 Now Being Developed By Defiant Studios

CI Games recently announced that they’ve moved development for Lords of the Fallen 2 over to Defiant Studios after parting ways with Deck13 Interactive. The game is now currently in development for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

The Polish publisher is teaming with the North American developer to finish up work on the sequel to the 2014 hack-and-slash RPG, Lords of the Fallen. The sequel still follows the convicted criminal Harkyn, as he’s tasked with defeating the Rhogar army and the demonic lords of the fallen.

As noted in the press release, the original game sold 2 million copies across all three platforms, and it was considered a slightly above average Dark Souls clone. Some people didn’t like the slow and plodding combat (even though I thought the methodical combat was the best part about the game). Others didn’t like how linear and small the adventure felt.

Nevertheless, Lords of the Fallen 2 will be passed off to Defiant Studios, which only just recently formed two years ago back in 2016. They’re made up of some industry vets, including the game director from Avalanche Studios who worked on Just Cause 3. I don’t know if that’s really the sort of title you would want to lead with when it comes to convincing gamers about the quality of Lords of the Fallen 2, especially since out of the trilogy of Just Cause games, Just Cause 3 is considered to be the most lackluster of the three.

Anyway, Defiant Studios will be working on Lords of the Fallen 2, but CI Games didn’t roll out any concrete release date or release window for the game. After Deck13 was taken off the project back in 2015, the last we heard from CI about the project was from back in mid-2017, which indicated that Lords of the Fallen 2 would launch within two years. So we’ll see if they can make the 2019 release slate next year.
